When I was in college and studying for my bachelor degree in Medical Technology, “pandemic” was just a word. A term which I needed to keep in my memory together with the words “epidemic”, “outbreak”, “contagious”, “infectious” and a whole bunch of other medical terminologies. Never in my imagination did I think that someday I will be experiencing a “pandemic” – an epidemic occurring worldwide, or over a very wide area, crossing international boundaries and usually affecting a large number of people (WHO definition). Now this word has become synonymous to “nightmare”. Everyday people are dying in different parts of the world, and the world is in panic. Still in the midst of this chaos and uncertainty, in the midst of horrible news here, there and everywhere, you will see an article or hear  from a relative or a friend that this and that couple are getting married. As a matter of fact, just recently I received a wedding invitation from a relative asking me to RSVP, the wedding will be in the summer. I said to myself – “Really? In times like this, seriously?”. I found myself answering my own question – yes really!

“Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.” (Song of Songs 8:7 NKJV) LOVE. Love is powerful – it is as strong as death, its ardour unyielding as the grave. It burns like a blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Again I am quoting King Solomon who wrote these verses. Love is more powerful than COVID19. Love is the most powerful force in the universe. Why? Because God is Love and Love is God.

Albert Einstein, the genius who gave the world’s most famous equation has a daughter named Lieserl. In the late 80’s she donated 1400 letters written by her father to the Hebrew University. I would like to share with you a text of one of these letters which I stumbled upon at the monoset.com web site.

A Letter To Leiserl

“When I proposed the theory of relativity, very few understood me, and what I will reveal now to transmit to mankind will also collide with the misunderstanding and prejudice in the world. I ask you to guard the letters as long as necessary, years, decades, until society is advanced enough to accept what I will explain below.

There is an extremely powerful force that, so far, science has not found a formal explanation to. It is a force that includes and governs all others, and is even behind any phenomenon operating in the universe and has not yet been identified by us. This universal force is LOVE.

When scientists looked for a unified theory of the universe they forgot the most powerful unseen force. Love is Light,  that enlightens those who give and receive it. Love is gravity, because it makes some people feel attracted to others. Love is power, because it multiplies the best we have, and allows humanity not to be extinguished in their blind selfishness. Love unfolds and reveals. For love we live and die. Love is God and God is Love.

This force explains everything and gives meaning to life. This is the variable that we have ignored for too long, maybe because we are afraid of love because it is the only energy in the universe that man has not learned to drive at will.

To give visibility to love, I made a simple substitution in my most famous equation. If instead of E=mc2, we accept that the energy to heal the world can be obtained through love multiplied by the speed of light squared, we arrive at the conclusion that love is the most powerful force there is, because it has no limits.

After the failure of humanity in the use and control of the other forces of the universe that have turned against us, it is urgent that we nourish ourselves with another kind of energy…

If we want our species to survive, if we are to find meaning in life, if we want to save the world and every sentient being that inhabits it, love is the one and only answer.

Perhaps we are not yet ready to make a bomb of love, a device powerful enough to entirely destroy the hate, selfishness and greed that devastate the planet.

However, each individual carries within them a small but powerful generator of love whose energy is waiting to be released. When we learn to give and receive this universal energy, dear Lieserl, we will have affirmed that love conquers all, is able to transcend everything and anything, because love is the quintessence of life.

I deeply regret not having been able to express what is in my heart, which has quietly beaten for you all my life. Maybe it’s too late to apologize, but as time is relative, I need to tell you that I love you and thanks to you I have reached the ultimate answer!”

Love is the most powerful force. And in this time of corona virus pandemic, the antidote is LOVE for “Perfect love casteth away fear…” (1 John 4:8) There is no fear in love. For most of us, this verse can be difficult to comprehend. But when we pray and really meditate on the meaning of this scripture, it is simpler than we realize. Because God is love, perfect love, the closer we come to Him, the less power fear has over us. God’s love can make us fearless in everything because as long as God is on our side and we have a right relationship with Him, everything is going to be more than okey. Whatever we ask in prayer, believe that we already receive it for according to our belief it will be done to us. (Matthew 9:29, Mark 11:24).

Let LOVE be bigger than our fears and may the force of God’s love be with us all in this challenging times.

And yes, I will definitely attend the wedding when the curve has flattened, God-willing. Because, why not? 🙂
