At all times and in all places, in all sorrows and in all afflictions, when the outlook seems dark and the future perplexing, and we feel helpless and alone, the Comforter will be sent in answer to the prayer of faith. Circumstances may separate us from every earthly friend; but no circumstances, no distance, can separate us from the heavenly Comforter. Wherever we are, wherever we may go, He is always at our right hand to support, sustain, uphold and cheer. – The Desire of Ages pp. 669, 670
The representative of Jesus Christ is the Holy Spirit. Because of His humanity Jesus could not be in every place at the same time. And so it was for our advantage that He should go to the Father and send the Holy Spirit to be His great replacement on earth. By the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus can be approached by all humanity. In this way He would be omnipresent.
From Genesis to Revelation, God has been working together with His Holy Spirit through human collaboration for the accomplishment of His purpose in behalf of the fallen humanity. This was apparent in the lives of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and other patriarchs in the Bible. Also in Moses’ time in the wilderness together with the Israelites, the Holy Spirit was the One appointed by God to give them instructions. The power which sustained these patriarchs was the same power of the Holy Spirit that gave Joshua and Caleb faith and courage, also the power that made the work of the churches in the New Testament effective. In those days of the apostles, from Matthew through Paul and Timothy and the rest of Jesus’ disciples God has laboured mightily with these people, for His church through the help of the Holy Spirit. It was the same Holy Spirit who enabled men and women the skills to translate the words of the Bible for it to be read and understood by all.
The breath of spirituality in every human being is the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit there is no spiritual life. The gifts of the Spirit is the revelation of Jesus Christ’s character. If we want to be like Jesus and have His attributes, the Holy Spirit can give these to us but we have to commune with Christ and humbly ask through prayer. The Holy Spirit is the divine assistant which God has provided for all the emergency situations in our lives to which our human capabilities are lacking.
God sends the Holy Spirit to help in every challenges, to strengthen our faith, give us hope and assurance, to enlighten our minds and heal our broken hearts.
